No rankings are republished from other outlets, and every figure in these pieces is derived from the underlying pick data rather than quoted secondhand.

How we approach draft analysis

Most draft writing is published before the draft, which means it is necessarily speculation. What interests us more is the part almost nobody goes back and does: measuring what actually happened against what was predicted, using a reference point that was fixed and public beforehand.

That reference point is our 2026 consensus big board. Because it was assembled from public rankings before the draft, every claim in these pieces can be checked. When we say a player fell 47 slots, that is a subtraction anyone can repeat, not an impression. When we say a position ran, we mean a specific number of players came off the board inside a specific window.

This has a deliberate consequence: we avoid grading draft classes. A grade issued days after a draft is a guess about the next four years dressed up as a verdict, and the people issuing them are rarely held to them. Measurable claims are less satisfying to read and considerably more likely to be true.

What the data can't tell you

Worth stating plainly, because it bounds everything above. Public boards cannot see medical files, interview results or scheme-specific coaching opinions, the three inputs that most often explain a draft-day slide. So when this analysis reports a large gap between ranking and draft slot, it is measuring a disagreement, not identifying a mistake.

Usually the league is right and the board is missing information. That asymmetry is the single most useful thing to hold in mind while reading any draft post-mortem, including ours.
