Offense versus defense

The 2026 class broke 127 offense to 117 defense: a tilt toward offense, close enough to call balanced. Splits like this are driven less by philosophy than by supply: teams draft the class in front of them, and a class with unusual depth at one position group pulls the whole distribution with it.

Positional distribution

Every position group by number of players selected:

PositionDraftedShare of draft
Wide Receiver 34 13.2%
Interior Offensive Line 29 11.3%
Edge Rusher 26 10.1%
Cornerback 25 9.7%
Defensive Tackle 25 9.7%
Linebacker 22 8.6%
Tight End 21 8.2%
Offensive Tackle 19 7.4%
Safety 19 7.4%
Running Back 14 5.4%
Quarterback 10 3.9%
Punter 1 0.4%
Kicker 1 0.4%

Wide Receiver led the class with 34 selections, 13.2% of the entire draft. The three most-drafted groups together accounted for 89 picks, 35% of the board.

Position runs

A run is what happens when one team's pick changes another team's math. We counted 15 instances where three or more players at the same position came off the board inside a six-pick window:

Runs are the clearest evidence that draft boards are not independent. Once two teams take the same position back to back, every team behind them with that need has to decide whether the supply will survive another ten picks. Frequently it does not, and the run feeds itself.

School production

The programs that put the most players into the 2026 draft:

SchoolPlayers drafted
Ohio State 11
Alabama 10
Texas A&M 10
Texas Tech 9
Miami 9
Clemson 9
Indiana 8
Penn State 8
Georgia 8
LSU 7
Oregon 7
Washington 7
Oklahoma 7
Iowa 7
Florida 6

Ohio State led all programs with 11 players selected. 72 different schools produced at least one pick, a reminder that even in an era of consolidated talent at the top of the sport, NFL rosters are still assembled from a genuinely wide base.

Picks by team

Draft capital is not evenly distributed, and d.trades widen the spread further. Miami Dolphins finished with the most selections at 13; Los Angeles Rams finished with the fewest at 5.
