NFL Draft Linebacker Rankings

How the draft market prices linebackers, what evaluators weight, and every class we cover ranked within the position.

How the market prices the position

Off-ball linebacker has been devalued more than any position except running back, and for the same structural reason: teams are in nickel personnel most of the time, which means the third linebacker is often not on the field. A linebacker who cannot cover is a two-down player, and two-down players do not go early any more. The exception is the linebacker with genuine coverage range, who is priced closer to a safety.

What evaluators actually weight

Coverage ability is the gate. Beyond that, evaluators weight processing, how quickly a linebacker diagnoses run versus pass and fits the right gap, over pure speed. Blitz timing is a bonus that scheme can amplify.

The recurring failure mode

Downhill thumpers with excellent run tape and stiff hips are the recurring trap. The tape looks like a first-round player on early downs and a liability the moment the offense spreads out.
